The combat in Echoes of Yi: Samsara is methodical, punishing, and deeply satisfying. Every swing of the sword feels deliberate, and success hinges not on frantic button-mashing but on patience and precision. The parry system clearly inspired by Sekiro demands tight timing. Miss the window, and you’re punished. Nail it, and you’re rewarded with a gorgeous cinematic finisher. One of the standout features is the stamina management system. Rather than a traditional stamina bar, the game uses a spirit disruption meter. This adds a unique rhythm to fights, where players must balance aggression and defense to wear down an enemy’s guard and unleash a lethal blow. Each boss feels handcrafted, not just in appearance but in combat patterns and lore. They aren’t just stronger enemies they’re characters, with backstories steeped in Chinese mythology. Some are graceful sword dancers; others are monstrous embodiments of ancient tales. That said, the game’s learning curve can be steep. There’s a distinct lack of hand-holding. Tutorials are sparse, and figuring out mechanics becomes part of the experience. For some, that’s a thrill. For others, it’s a frustration.
